Arabic, Japanese, Spanish and Brazilian Portuguese classes are offered at the AAI this summer term.
The language courses allow you to learn more about the country and its people and meet nice colleauges at the same time. Native-speaking teachers, a relaxed setting and small numbers of participants with a maximum of 10 people promote the special language acquisition.
Arabic with Samera Sakar: Beginners A1 (without prior knowledge)
Dates: Weekly from Thursday, 13. March 2025, 6-7.30 PM, running until to the end of the summer term. (Participant schedule preferences can be considered.)
Venue: Afro-Asian Institute, study room (2nd floor)
Prerequisites: none.
Goals: Basic knowledge; acquisition of writing and oral competences; introduction into the grammar; basic knowledge of the Arabic alphabet; general vocabulary; everyday situations: introducing oneself, family, talking about yourself, arranging an appointment, telling the time; sentence construction; reading and understanding of simple texts.
Spanish with Marta Cercós: Online Conversation for Intermediate B1
Dates: Weekly from Tuesday, 11. March 2025, 6.30 - 8 PM, running until to the end of the summer term.
Venue: online course
Prerequisites: Confident language use at A2+ level, subjuntivo, past tenses.
Goals: Expanding vocabulary through reading and discussing in a dynamic and cooperative environment, conversations about travelling, music and culture, animating surprise topics.

Brazilian Portuguese with Fernanda Mattos: Basic Level A2 (with basic prior knowledge)
Dates: Weekly from Tuesday, 11. March 2025, 6 – 7.30 PM, running until to the end of the summer term. (Participant schedule preferences can be considered.)
Prerequisites: Introducing yourself; understanding and formulating simple sentences; present and past tense.
Goals: Consolidation of the present tense conjugation; perfect; gerund; enlarging basic knowledge and general vocabulary; everyday situations; apologizing; appointments; descriptions; short newspaper article; improving reading, writing and language skills.
Japanese with Sayuri Arafune: Basic Level A1.5 (with basic prior knowledge)
Date: Weekly from Wednesday, 2. April, 2025, 7–8.30 PM, running until to the end of the summer term. (Participant schedule preferences can be considered.)
Location: Afro-Asian Institute, Study Room (2nd floor)
Requirements: Basic vocabulary, good knowledge of HIRAGANA and KATAKANA, simple sentence construction in present and past tense, ability to use basic everyday language.
Japanese with Sayuri Arafune: Intermediate B1.5 (with solid basic knowledge)
Date: Weekly from Thursday, 4. April, 2025, 4.30–6 PM, running until to the end of the summer term.
(Participant schedule preferences can be considered.)
Location: Afro-Asian Institute, Study Room (2nd floor)
Requirements: Solid knowledge of KANA and systematic knowledge of KANJI. Strong basic grammar skills. Ability to use the language in everyday situations. (Equivalent to JLPT levels N5 to N4.)
